LEARN Model

 The LEARN Model is a communication model that can be used in healthcare settings in order to improve communication if there are any language and cultural barriers present. It also promotes patient involvement in the treatment process, which in turn makes them more motivated. 

The LEARN mnemonic is as follows: 

L- Listen and allow the patient to discuss their experience and understanding of their ailment. 

E- Explain the disorder and a possible treatment plan. Tie your explanation to something the patient can understand. 

A- Acknowledge the patient's understanding of their disorder and possible treatment plan. Note areas of agreement and settle areas of disagreement. 

R- Recommend treatment plan. 

N- Negotiate plan of action.
